Silkie Rooster Comb Infection - Persistent Issue, Need Advice!

Post by BroodyBella »

Hi everyone,

I have a Silkie rooster who's been dealing with an infection in the crease of his comb. It's filled with yellow pus, and I've cleaned it out a few times using Q-tips and applied antiseptic powder afterward, but it keeps coming back. I'm wondering if anyone here has dealt with a similar issue or has any suggestions for a more effective treatment.

Any advice on how to handle this or what else I could try to prevent it from recurring would be really appreciated! Thanks so much!

It could be a recurrent issue due to underlying conditions like mites or poor nutrition. You might want to check for mites or consider supplementing his diet with extra vitamins.

I've had similar issues with my roosters, and I found using an antibiotic ointment like Terramycin helped speed up the healing. Also, try keeping the coop extra clean to avoid reinfection.

Sounds like it could be fowl pox or a similar infection. You could try applying a more heavy-duty ointment like Neosporin and keep it clean daily to prevent reinfection.

If the infection is persistent, you may want to ask your vet about giving an oral antibiotic or an injectable treatment, as topical remedies alone may not be enough for deep tissue infections.
